Todays Featured Musician: North Stars Steel Orchestra23 performers all playing steel-pan and percussion. The story of the North Stars is the story of two families, the Benjamins and Sylvesters, who learnt to play the steel pan in Silver Harps, a band operating out of Point Fortin in the south west of Trinidad. On coming to Britain it was only natural that they should establish a steel band in their new home of Huddersfield to recreate the authentic sound of Trinidad. North Stars Steel Orchestra was founded in 1975 by the current manager Kelvin Benjamin and drummer, Leroy Sylvester. They were subsequently joined by Musical Director, Jeremy Platt, and have now engaged as Principal Guest arranger Clarence Morris, the Director of the National Steel Orchestra of Trinidad and Tobago.
